Stateland Café

Stateland Café, a two-storey bistro-café located on Bali Lane, is renowned for its fusion dishes, specialty coffee, and its signature artisanal waffles. Stateland Café prides itself on its handmade menu, where its team freshly prepares all the dishes in its in-house production kitchen. The soft serves are proudly provided by Brother Bird Softserve Co., a brand under the same owner as Stateland Café.

Stateland Café has a beautiful décor, redolent of the countryside with its rustic furnishing. With industrial elements such as its monochromatic portraits, cemented grey walls, and the warm glow of low hanging lights, the café provides a union between contemporary and the countryside. While the café may seem compact with the small walking space, with more seats available on the second storey, the ambiance is rather cosy and relaxed. Dried flowers adorn the café, further adding a whimsical touch to the overall design. Kinfolk magazines are also placed strategically around the café, as both a décor and as an entertainment for patrons to peruse. With soft jazz music playing in the background, the café emanates a pleasantly quaint atmosphere, providing a homely experience.

The menu provides detailed information on its food, with the artisanal waffles being the most aesthetically pleasing. I had ordered S’more Waffle and Roasted Barley Tea, both of which did not fall short of my expectations. As per the picture, S’more Waffle came with a generous slab of soft serve most delicately placed upon the dark chocolate waffle. Liquid marshmallow dribbled the waffle sinfully with sprinkled bits of crushed cornflakes. Thick chocolate syrup was then drizzled over the waffle, finally completing the overall visual art.

I was almost reluctant to start eating, but the waffle had looked too appetizing to be left untouched. The dark chocolate waffle had a crispy texture similar to that of a French toast, and the rich flavour of the chocolate was divine. The soft serve had a saccharine taste, with a faint caramel note, as it was crafted from caramelized butter cookie. I had loved the combination of the melted marshmallow with the waffle, sweet, warm, and gooey, it was heavenly when dipped into the cold soft serve. The idea of using S’mores with waffle and ice-cream is an ingenious creation, and I had enjoyed the marshmallow component the most. The caramel aftertaste from the ice-cream, along with the chocolate syrup, served to further dulcify the overall palate. S’more Waffle was indeed the perfect treat for the afternoon; with the balanced sweetness and refreshing taste, it was a flavoursome yet ambrosial delight, each bite leaving me wanting more.

Stateland Café provides complimentary jug of water on each table, and I had a cup to cleanse my palate before trying the Roasted Barley Tea. For those who are not aware, Roasted Barley Tea is prepared in the form of soft serve. Served in a cup, it was a copious amount of ice-cream topped with homemade maple granola and intermixed with soy toffee sauce. The soft serve was robust in flavour, fragrant with the scent of barley tea. While with strong barley notes, the tea being slightly bitter in taste, the soy toffee sauce had provided a honeyed balance to it. Meanwhile, the maple granola chunks were crunchy in texture and was an additional treat to the velvety taste of the soft serve. Overall, I had found the Roasted Barley Tea to be a unique rendition of the usual beverage, and it was a delectable dessert – a must try for all tea lovers.

I had a pleasant experience at Stateland Café, and while the décor was a bonus, it was the attentive waiter and waitresses that had made me feel at home. Stateland Café’s pride in its signature desserts are justified, and every treat is indeed meticulously prepared. From all day breakfasts, mains, desserts, and beverages, Stateland Café has it all. Especially for dessert-lovers, do indulge yourself in this little gem on Bali Lane.
